QLD-NSW BORDER RESTRICTIONS
While our event is in QLD (we’ve shared the specific location but see yellow cross in the image below), it is VERY close to the NSW border.
This means, that any of your players / parents / supporters could get caught if they do not take the appropriate exit if travelling south on the M1. The last exit to get off before you hit NSW is Exit 95 (Currumbin/Tugun). Attendees can then travel down the Gold Coast Highway in Tugun, until they get to the Coolangatta Road turn-off leading into Coolangatta. If anyone goes past Exit 95, then they will get stuck in a border control queue any which way they go from there. Google Maps is up-to-date with the border check points, and for the most part, will tell you to avoid it but it’s worth mentioning to your people that they should not go past Exit 95 if heading south. Please put McDonald Street, Coolangatta, QLD 4225 as your destination.
There is also a border control for those coming in from NSW at the point below (see in red), which is very close to our location:
If anyone accidentally finds themselves on the wrong side of the border, then all they need to do is apply for a QLD Border Re-entry Pass which can be done on a phone (for each person in the car) and shown to the Police once you make it to the checkpoint. The link is below in case that happens. You just need to show your phone with the completed border entry pass at the front of the queue.
https://www.qld.gov.au/border-pass
We would encourage all your players & supporters to play it safe and take either Exit 95 or earlier, as the border queues do take some time if anyone needs to double-back and come through a checkpoint. State of Origin jokes aside, dealing with the traffic jam to get back across the border is not how anyone wants to start the day!
